Another consultation on car park charging hours – make your views known again!

Mid Sussex District Council (MSDC) launches ANOTHER consultation on proposed extension of parking charges to evenings and weekends

You’ll remember the massive effort from town residents and businesses to oppose the extension of parking charges by signing and sharing the petition organised by the East Grinstead Business Association – to make your voices count and be heard. And you may also have responded to the first parking consultation which took place in July. The proposal is to increase the charging period into the evening (to 8pm), and to introduce charges for the first time on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Having taken on board the concerns that some residents of town centre streets had expressed regarding the displacement effect of more cars needing to ‘street park’ – the Council is proposing to introduce an overnight residents parking permit for the Queens Road Car Park (but not currently for any of the other town car parks as far as we understand).

We believe the new charges will have a negative impact, not only on retail businesses – but importantly on restaurants, cafes, bars, cinema, theatre, evening classes and social groups, church activities, gym users, public town events (fairs, car and bus days, Christmas Big Reveal, Remembrance Day) and volunteers  – the list goes on …

The consultation period is open until 12 noon on 31 October 2024, so get writing and emailing now – a simple, short response summarising your concerns is fine. EGBA will also be writing in again on behalf of members, but individual views from you are crucial.
