East Grinstead Sports Club to invest £450,000 in major pitch upgrades this summer

East Grinstead Sports Club (EGSC) has announced a £450,000 investment to resurface its hockey and 3G football pitches this summer, ensuring high-quality facilities are available for thousands of local players and community users.
This investment marks a significant step in ensuring EGSC’s facilities remain among the highest quality in the region. It forms part of an ongoing plan to further enhance the site and expand the range of sport and recreation opportunities available to the local community.
The Charity has signed a contract with Blakedown Sport & Play who will carry out the work, so that both surfaces are ready for the start of the next hockey and football seasons. Work on the 3G football pitch will begin on 11th May and take approximately six weeks to complete, with a full replacement of both the 3G carpet and shock pad.
Following the football pitch refurbishment the resurfacing of the hockey pitch will commence on 22nd June. This will also involve the replacement of the carpet and shock pad and take a further six weeks.
The total project investment is £450,000, funded through a combination of EGSC Charity reserves, a generous grant from Sport England, and a loan from a valued benefactor with a long‑standing commitment to the Club. The Charity is deeply grateful for this financial support as it will enable both resurfacing projects to be delivered within the same summer season.
Adam Smith, Chair of EGSC’s Trustees said:
“I am incredibly excited about this investment and want to thank everyone involved so far, especially my fellow Trustees Richard Leman and Nigel Fish without whom it would not be going ahead. This project will allow us to upgrade both pitches in a single summer, therefore minimising disruption while delivering lasting benefits for East Grinstead and the wider Mid-Sussex area.
“The Trustees are committed to providing first-class facilities so that more local people can take part in sport and physical activity and I am confident that these improvements will provide cutting edge playing surfaces for years to come. They will strengthen EGSC’s position as a leading hub for grassroots and elite sport in the region and attract many more users to our club.”
