Greenaway Foundation honoured to receive Community Award – again!

Greenaway Foundation, the registered charity of local estate agents and EGBA members, Greenaway Residential, received the award – for the second time – at the annual Crawley Community Awards in recognition of their exceptional fundraising efforts to help disadvantaged families in the local community.

This week saw the fourteenth annual Crawley Community Awards, an event that recognises outstanding contributions to the local community. Among the nominees for an award were the team at Greenaway Residential, many of whom are trustees of The Greenaway Foundation. The Foundation itself was set up in 2010 by Darren Greenaway to allow them to help the local community.  All the trustees were proud to be recognised for their exceptional fundraising efforts over the previous twelve months.

Over this period, they had raised over £80,000 to support the Foundation’s charitable endeavours! One of their notable initiatives was the charity’s annual Christmas efforts, where nearly 900 families received essential ingredients to prepare a healthy two-course Christmas dinner.  Additionally, the Foundation sourced, purchased, wrapped and delivered over 1,600 children’s Christmas presents.

But the impact of The Greenaway Foundation extends beyond the festive season. It plays a crucial role in supporting 51 schools in the Crawley, East Grinstead, and surrounding areas. Support includes facilitating student travel to and from school, providing meals, and contributing to school proms and trips. The Foundation is committed to enhancing the educational experience and wellbeing of local students.

In his acceptance speech, Greenaway Foundation CEO, Darren Greenaway, acknowledged the collective efforts of the trustees, volunteers and local businesses, as well the hundreds of private donors who contributed to the Foundation’s success.

A distinguishing aspect of The Greenaway Foundation is its financial model. The running costs of the Foundation are generously provided by Greenaway Residential estate agents, ensuring that every penny raised thereafter directly benefits the local community. This commitment to transparency and accountability reinforces the Foundation’s credibility and trust within the community.

This summer The Greenaway Foundation also supported many local secondary schools by providing students with financial support for their proms.  One student who was helped said: “I was really sad when my friends were talking about the prom, and knowing I couldn’t go. I’m so happy that I can now attend, I’m really excited”.

Looking ahead, Darren has set ambitious goals for Christmas 2024, aiming to extend support to over 1,000 families, and fulfil at least 4,000 present wishes – spreading the joy even further!
