Rex’s Notes August 2023

Councillor Rex Whittaker updates us for August.

EG Sports Council

East Grinstead Sports Council met on 20 July when over twenty of our local sports clubs representatives met with nominated town and district councillors. This is a quarterly meeting format where clubs can share news , events and experiences and network at the same time. Each club is set up as a local business or charity CIO.

As such they are looking to raise revenue by grant applications and particularly with local company advertising and sponsorships.

The independent chair of this group is Bob Shelley and he can be contacted directly on

Therefore if any local or regional businesses are looking to expand their exposure through genuine club support then please contact Bob in the first instance as he has all of the club information and contacts.

East Court Live

The last of East Grinstead town councils Live free music events takes place on Sunday 6 August at East Court between 1 and 5 pm.

This is a free entry & parking event for all the family during school holidays. Live music will be playing all afternoon and there will be food and drink hospitality at the event.

MSDC Business Associations Network Event

On Thursday 19 October HHBA have arranged  for a power networking event for all members of the East Grinstead Business Association , Haywards Heath Business Association , Burgess Hill Business Parks Association and Gatwick Diamond Business.

This will be held at East Sussex National Golf Club near Uckfield between 6 and 8 pm and will be a great opportunity to attend a high level networking event bringing many District wide companies , stakeholders , and council officers together.

Mid Sussex District Council have recently published their latest business bulletin, which can be found on the website

This details many summer events arranged by MSDC as a place to enjoy over the summer.

It also details two new programmes  of fully funded business support available to local businesses over the coming months. LET’S GO Net Zero is aimed at small and medium sized enterprises  to deliver a fully funded programme of free support and events to help embrace sustainability and net zero objectives.

This six month programme of 121 free events and workshops between September 2023 and March 2024 aims to help local businesses strengthen their digital toolkit.

The Grow Digital programme is supported by the West Sussex Councils in partnership with specialist creative consultants. Further details can be seen via

Gatwick Airport Ltd have submitted their Development Consent Order application to the planning inspectorate for the construction of a second runway. The next key date in this process is 4 August when a further statement will be issued on the timescales for a full public inquiry to assess the application. All of the ten surrounding local authorities are monitoring the position very closely in order to ensure that should a future consent be given – then the necessary provision of additional infrastructure can be secured.

Should consent be awarded then there is no doubt that there will be huge opportunities for all businesses in East Grinstead and the wider Mid Sussex Area.
