REX’S NOTES MAY 2024 Local Council Updates

Councillor Rex Whittaker brings us up-to-date with what’s been happening in and around the town, and some dates for your diary …

Planning application
A planning application (reference DM / 24 / 0981 ) has been received to demolish the current Homebase store at 219 – 225 London Road East Grinstead and to build a new Lidl supermarket building with 108 parking spaces on the site. Public comments are welcomed via the MSDC planning portal. This application will be considered at a MSDC planning committee in the coming months.

Gatwick Airport expansion public examination
The second session hearings of the public examination into this proposal were heard by the expert panel between 30 April and 2 May. This follows from further detailed representations and reports made by all concerned parties in March.

These covered in great detail climate issues, environment matters, and any matters concerning the compulsory purchase of extra land that may be needed for the proposed project.

Further hearing sessions are planned over the Summer period. By early Autumn a detailed examination report will be sent to the Government for detailed consideration and decision.

Local Councils
On 2 May there were some local council seats being contested at elections.

Edward Godwin was elected to East Grinstead Town Council for Ashplats Ward in the only by-election.
