In the summer of 2021, the University of Brighton, University of Sussex, West Sussex County Council and the West Sussex District and Borough Councils joined forces to create the Research and Innovation in Sussex Excellence (RISE) project, receiving £603,514 of funding from the ERDF.

RISE was designed to provide innovation and growth support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) addressing economic challenges facing these businesses.

The programme provided fully subsidised and direct access to academic expertise, access to a range of bespoke innovation programmes, making a positive contribution to the local business community www.rise-innovation.co.uk.

  • Over 200 businesses supported
  • Over 2,300 hours of support received
  • 500+ businesses reached through events
  • 15 new jobs created
  • Stimulated £400k of further investment in research and development
  • 40 new products or services supported.
