Welcome to news and updates from Mid Sussex to Parliament.

Looking Back at The Beginning of October

Dear Constituents

It has most definitely been a busy few weeks in and out of Westminster. From having the opportunity of joining High Weald Dairy’s impressive cheese making process, opening a brand new Fish Bar in East Grinstead, to raising awareness of breast cancer, World Sight Day, and Hate Crime Awareness Week.

I’ve been out visiting our brilliant local businesses who continue to work tirelessly – please do shop local, there are some fantastic local businesses in our constituency.

I was also on BBC South East Politics discussing issues around SEND support in schools, how the online age is affecting the youth of today, and sharing my views on Labour’s recently announced outrageous plans to bulldoze Greenfields and concrete over our beautiful countryside.

I have been to community events and activities and I never fail to be greatly impressed with the dedication and generosity to local causes I see.

Internationally, over the last few weeks, however, we have all witnessed the horrifying actions and impacts unfolding in Israel. I join the Government in wholly condemning the gruesome terrorist attacks by Hamas that began on 7 October, and in standing resolutely with Israel as it seeks to defend itself and protect its people against these atrocities.

The Prime Minister made a further statement to the House earlier this week on the latest situation in Israel and Gaza and his ongoing actions to secure understanding and boost collective efforts to calm the situation and reduce bloodshed of all those innocent people caught up in this devastating situation and bring the long term peace and security we all want for everyone in the area.

You can read his statement in full here: PM statement to the House of Commons on the latest situation in Israel and Gaza: 23 October 2023 – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Our thoughts and prayers are with all who are caught up within this desperately sad situation. I have travel advice on my website, I am continually updating should you or anyone you know need help.

Finally, Prorogation marks the end of a parliamentary session and brings to an end almost all business in Parliament which starts today. The State Opening of Parliament, the formal start to Parliament’s working year, will take place on Tuesday 7th November 2023.

In the meantime, if you would like to share your thoughts on national policy, or need assistance with a bespoke casework query, please do not hesitate to contact my Westminster office on either 0207 219 6853 or by emailin: Mims.Davies.MP@parliament.uk

With my best wishes
